Ente Photos is a privacy architecture: end-to-end encryption, open source, self-hostable. Photo Jelly is an event sharing product. Ente is better at keeping a camera roll away from a vendor. Mogra is better at getting 400 guests their photos. Neither should win the other’s column.
Two different jobs
Ente Photos is best when people replacing google photos with e2e encryption and optional self-hosting. Photo Jelly is best when the job is an event: ingest, face delivery, WhatsApp, and a photographer in the loop.
Choose Photo Jelly if
- You are hosting or shooting an event.
- Guests should not all get a login to an encrypted archive.
If your threat model is “no server should read my library,” Ente is the adult in the room. Mogra encrypts in transit and at rest as a SaaS; that is not the same as Ente’s E2E + self-host story. We will not claim otherwise.
If your job is “the wedding must go out tonight,” Ente is the wrong tool. Face delivery and WhatsApp are not what an encrypted backup is for.
